Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese form of exercise to harmonise and re-energise the body, mind and spirit. Qi Gong classes provide a space to learn and practice techniques developed over thousands of years by the cultures of the east. Qi Gong has been shown to promote health, relaxation and is said, in the classic texts, to be the secret to longevity.
The word "Qi" (or Chi), in Chinese means energy and "Gong" (or Kung) translates to work. Simply put, this term explains the principle behind Qi Gong, which is to become aware of, circulate and cultivate the energy of the mind, body and spirit. To do this, Qi Gong combines focus of the mind using visualisation and intention, with gentle physical movement and posture. Breath is an important part of this process and is the tool which harmonises these techniques.
Qi Gong can be used specifically to assist in the treatment of the medicinal needs of the participant, in a group situation or during private tuition. Medical Qi Gong may involve a private, initial consultation to ensure correct technique.
